The role and aims
of the Chamber of commerce and industry


The CCI's are public establishements of an administrative nature, governed by the law of the 9th april 1858.

The traditional role of the CCI is to support the development of convenience stores and service compagnies as well as giving individual backing to the setting up of industrial companies.

The CCI's are run by permanent members, who are elected by the heads of companies who have the right to vote. They are assisted by associate members and consular delagates.

The consular organisation is made up of 3 levels:
- 162 local chambers (CCI) 9 of which are in the french overseas administrative department and territories
- 21 regional Chambers
- and the French Chamber of commerce and industry assembly in Paris (ACFCI). 

The Perpignan CCI



The Perpignan CCI not only fulfils the roles common to all CCI's but is also a training centre for heads of companies, salaried employees, job seekers, apprentices an student. There is the apprentice training centre, adult continuing education, a language school, training centre for fruit an vegetables (import/export) and the school for robotic engineering.
More than 3,000 people take part in these training courses each year.

The CCI manages key intrastructures such as the Port-Vendres port (which had more than 200,000 tons of freight in 2005 and has a 18,000 m2 coldstore terminal warehouse for fruit) and the international Perpignan-Rivesaltes airport (Paris, Great Britain)which has brought 34m of direct benefits to the Pyrénées-Orientales and more than 420,000 passengers in 2005.


But the CCI also supports future profession


- Transport and logistic : with its involvement in the development of the distribution depot in Le Boulou and the extension of transport facilities combining the Perpignan railway station and Saint-Charles international market.

- Renewable energies : the CCI gives information to the heads of copanies about the development of energies and it is directly involved in the regional competitive group Derbi.

- Nautical sector : it is one of the principle backers of Nautéa which is the Mediterranean nautical technopole and also administrator of the Mediterranean nautical institute (INM), which meets the training needs of this profession.
